I believe Katy Perry fits this classification because originally she was an innocent soulful gospel singer. The record label disapproved as she lacked edge, so they changed her in such a way that she sang about kissing girls and gays. She also changed her image dramatically by wearing coloured wigs, revealing clothes and becoming a sexual symbol. This made her stand out among other female artists as she was now very controversial and outspoken. This meant that she grabbed the audience attention as she was pushing boundaries in the music business.
I think Ariana Grande fits this classification because she is very young and is the only artist in the music business that can hit the high notes that the legendary Mariah Carey can reach. Therefore she is known to be the new Mariah but with a modern twist to her music, as she features with rappers and also makes very upbeat songs, which contrasts to Mariah Carey's slow songs.
I believe Michael Jackson fits this classification as he was a legend that had a global fan base, with the world in his hands. He was an amazing role model and a very good person as his songs always touched on the reality of our world eg racism. He influenced people through his music dramatically by sending a message out to the audience. It is rare for an artist to appeal to all ages but he has a fan base of all ages, therefore making him a loved and powerful person that the audience look up to.
I think Taylor Swift fits this category as she was hardly changed by her record label. She was always a down to earth country girl who sang country music and her label did not change this image. It worked in her favour because she naturally fits the stereotypical image of a country artist - curly blonde hair, soulful, simple and plays the guitar.
