Lesson 1: In today's lesson my partner and I focused on completing extra work for pre production.
Lesson 2: We spent this lesson purchasing items like a white shirt for the bedroom scene and props such as roses because later on at my house we were going to film our first scene in the bath as well as taking pictures for the magazine advert. We filmed in the bath tub and the setting looked absolutely wonderful! We also got a lot of pictures for the magazine advert, they also came out looking amazing. Lesson 3: In lesson me and my partner viewed our work of the bath scenes and magazine advert pictures that we took. It was here that we noticed how irrelevant the bath scenes were! They were great shots but it had no relevance to the artists song which is about the artists devotion to her partner and the bath scenes did nothing to connote this! When we noticed this we also went to revise our other locations, again they had no meaning to them except the white screen which connoted her diva side and the kitchen scene because she is with her partner, this connotes their love. Therefore, we spent the lesson changing our idea. We decided to add loads of scenes of the couple doing couply activities such as play fighting and cuddling up, watching TV. Then we also noticed how ALL in all of our locations the artist is performing! We instantly got rid of this and instead just had our artist in front of a white screen wearing this glamorous dress with spotlights on her then cutting to the couple just having fun etc.
Lesson 4: So I spent this lesson just doing extra research on music videos and completing extra work. Later on, after school my partner and I started filming our new idea for our music video. We filmed on the white screen but we faced many problems! The white screen was not in good condition, so we could only film shots from the waist above. Then the lighting on the camera came out looking orange instead of white, so we had to tamper with the white balance but even after doing this it didn't look legit. Lastly, the spotlights created a shadow of me as well as themselves. So we literally spent an hour and half trying to manipulate the light so there was no shadow on the screen behind me. This was VERY difficult, we managed it in the end but I was at the edge of the screen with the shadow on the wall beside me. We filmed some shots but it just looked tacky and unprofessional. Yet again me and my partner re-evaluated our choice of locations, in particular the white screen as we really do not have time to be dealing with trying to get rid of a shadow. So, for the third and final time we changed our idea slightly. Instead of the white screen, we will have the artist walk down a very long road singing, while it cuts back and forth to the couple doing activities together because it's like she's reflecting upon her relationship and inviting the audience to also know how much she loves him - connoting the themes of romance/love/devotion clearly. We wanted to do this because it's winter and it's very hard with limited equipment etc to make the outside look glamorous. So we have overcome this situation be basing our music video on the idea of winter love which was inspired by Kelly Rowland's video (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aNZkI2yWi5w&feature=kp).We will have our artist walking down the street in heels, sophisticated coat and high waisted jeans. It's warm and romantic because at the end of her walk she will end up at home, take off her coat and cuddle down on the sofa with her partner. It's a simple idea which allows us to be creative with camera work and editing!
